Secondary batteries play an essential role, usually as a source of standby power, in many areas of business and commerce, such as telecom and data centers. To ensure those batteries deliver their full performance when called upon to do so, you must rely on a regular testing regime.

Many dedicated test labs across the country have rendered their testing and development services especially in Delhi & NCR due to increasing demand for portable dc power has risen from improvements in battery. Battery testing as per IS 1651

The scope of this standard specifies the rated Ah capacities, overall dimensions, performance requirements and test of stationary Lead acid cells and batteries using tubular positive plates.

What is the importance of battery testing?

Battery testing is very beneficial to all of us so, before discussion we must know the basics of this. In this contemporary epoch, batteries are very important as they are store house of power backup and are portable. They provide energy when there is no electricity supply and store power for future use. The uses of batteries cannot be counted on fingertips. They are widely used in industries, houses, vehicles, mobiles, offices, Laptops, in medical equipments and many more.

First of all we must know, what battery testing is? It is the procedure to check whether a Battery (EUT equipment under test or sample) conforms to Indian or International battery standards and it give its full performance. Battery testing gives a clear picture of the 3 main parameters, capacity (means its ability to store power), internal resistance (means that ability to deliver current) and self discharge.  For proper function of the battery, the level of the charges must be maintained.

Batteries are very costly to buy and life of UPS batteries is marketed as 9-10 years, but averagely we have to replace the battery after 5 – 6 years of time span. So, the battery testing shows us the clear picture of the battery. The batteries are generally sold out at higher price, if gone through the safety standards and pass through all the testing formalities.  Battery testing provides result of many parameters like, the life of the battery, capacity.
